Machinist I - Process Implementation

Working independently and as part of a team, the Machinist I will assist in the development and implementation of tooling part fabrication and machining and fixture assembly processes. This position will work closely with tool designers, machine design engineers, and Team Members to setup and machine parts required for one off projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for tooling part fabrication:

  • Fulfill part work orders; machine parts using blueprints and/or engineering drawings

  • Inspect parts for quality and completion

  • Fixture work including assembly and repair

  • Lift up to 40lbs if needed to perform fabrication/machining responsibilities

  • Cross train as a back up to other positions

  • Apply Lean Manufacturing knowledge and proficiency; participate in Lean, 5s and safety training events

Success Indicators:

  • Ability to read and translate Blueprints and Engineering drawings.

  • Hands-on experience using a Knee Mill, Manual lathes, floor grinders, drill press, band saw and other common machine shop tools.

  • Understanding of pneumatic and manual hand tools

  • Experience participating in process improvement initiatives.

  • General understanding of:

  • Safety: Cranes and Hoist Operation, LOTO Authorized, Machine Safety

  • Quality inspection with moderate solution skills.

  • Tooling Materials/Components


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional machining experience.

  • Candidates without the required professional machining experience who have a degree and relevant hands-on experience gained as part of the degree curriculum (Machining disciplines) can be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a machining discipline

  • Ability to read and translate Blueprints and Engineering drawings

  • ​​​​​Basic shop math as well as calibration skills

  • Hydraulic/Pneumatic knowledge

  • Basic Industrial Electrical knowledge

  • Knowledge of different material types

  • Ability to drive a forklift when necessary

  • CAD experience

  • CNC Operations; basic machining capabilities

  • Basic Cutting Tools Knowledge

  • Basic computer skills and operation including the use of a Word, Excel, email and basic internet usage.
